Matt Paradis plays football. It is his job.
He plays for the Denver Broncos. Matt has made his presence known and has become a significant team leader in a very short time. He even has a Super Bowl Championship ring! That’s quite impressive for a guy who just started in the pros four years ago.
Here are some facts about Matt:
- He was born in Council, ID. (Yes! The home of the Porcupine Races.)
- He is 6’3” tall.
- Weighs 300 lbs.
- He is a team captain for the Broncos Offense
- He wears jersey number 61.
- Started all 48 regular season games and three post-season contests during the last three seasons.
- Participated in every single snap of the ball from 2015-17.
One more thing you need to know – he is not the punter!
I’m not saying that he couldn’t punt the ball; but, he knows that is not his job. Someone else kicks the ball. Matt – hikes the ball. He is the Center and is responsible for getting the ball to the Quarterback and protecting the Quarterback. He stays focused on what he is best at and has become one of the best in the nation.
Could he kick the ball? Sure.
Should he kick the ball? Probably not.
Winners play to their strengths by using their unique skills to help benefit those around them.
The key to becoming a significant leader on your team, to earn their trust, and to be recognized as a person who gets the job done is to:
- Show up every day with a strong work ethic
- Stay focused on your unique strengths and role
- See things through, even if it hurts.
- Stop dabbling in duties that belong to other people
- Seek to serve, not to be served.
